Ensemble Laboratorium

Inspired by their time spent working with maestro Pierre Boulez at the 2004 Lucerne Festival Academy, a group of young musicians formed the contemporary music ensemble Laboratorium. Hailing from 14 countries on 5 continents, its members are particularly interested in focusing on the interpretation of new music, having gained valuable experience performing with a wide range of contemporary music ensembles. A primary goal of the ensemble is the development of an interactive exchange between the cultures represented by its members. This work takes shape in the form of specific projects which explore the complete range of contemporary music – from the well and lesser known repertoire of the 20th century to newly commissioned works, including multimedia collaborations with artists from other fields Laboratorium also seeks opportunities for collaboration with young composers and guest artists.

The debut performances with “Laboratorium for 11 musicians” (1973) by French composer and trombonist Vinko Globokar (*1934) were presented at the 2005 Lucerne Festival Academy and the 2005 Festival de Música Contemporánea de Alicante (Spain).
